About Us |History

Taal school of Dance and the Indian Arts was established in 2006 by its founder and director Jyoti Garg. The School had humble beginnings in the bonus room of her home. Her inspiration to start the school came from a realization that dance offered a brilliant channel to introduce students from the western world to the rich cultural heritage of India. In the initial years the coursework was limited to classical mixed with Bollywood-India's most popular cinema dance form. In 2007 the school journeyed into its next phase marked by its relocation to a professional studio facility on Woodruff road.

As the excitement of Indian dance grew, Taal introduced more classes: folk dances to cover the origins of Indian dance, bhangra to relieve the fast paced dance moves, and fun sessions to keep the adults young! In 2008 the dance school again relocated to Batesville road studio. In its latest phase, the school has further expanded its repertoire to include Bollywood, Fusion, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Folk, Fusion, Music, Singing, Vocals, Instruments, language, handicrafts, and Dance fitness classes.

Each year, Taal school of dance and the Indian Arts celebrates Indian dance and theatrical/performing arts with an exhilarating performance to showcase the year's accomplishments. Since 2006, this tradition empowers students to experience stardom as they dance on Greenville's most renowned stages. For the 5th anniversary show the venue was the prestigious Peace Center of the Performing Arts in downtown Greenville. In the past years the show venues have been the auditoriums at the Vedic Center, Clemson University, Greenville Technical College and Furman University.

The academy reached a milestone this year when the school conducted the opening, ground breaking ceremony on April 5, 2010 of their new state of the art studios, Taal Center for the Arts on 1145 East Butler Road, Greenville, SC. It also conducted its first year Kathak dance testing in affiliation with Atlanta's premiere dance Institute Nritya Natya Kala Bharti and the renowned Gandharva Mahavidyala India. Both schools have history of achieving academic and performance excellence in Kathak Indian Classical dance form.

The studio is a state of the art facility equipped with a large dance floor which is used for private lessons, group classes, and  dances. Learn to dance in a fun and exciting way in Greenville, South Carolina.
